9 Household Uses for Rice
9 Household Uses for Rice
1. Coffee Grinder Cleaner- Uncooked rice pulls moisture and oils out of things. If you put 1-2 Tablespoons of uncooked rice into your coffee grinder and grind it, it will help clean your coffee grinder. Just simply rinse it out after. This helps sharpen the blades too!
2. Heat and/or Cold Pack- Take a single sock or small pillow case and fill with uncooked rice. You can then heat it up for a minute and have a hot pack or freeze and have a cold pack! Add some essential oils (about 10 drops) to the uncooked rice inside for a good fragrance!
3. Clump Free Salt- Have you ever wondered why salt sometimes clumps? It is the moisture inside the shaker. If you add some uncooked rice to your salt shaker, the rice will pull the moisture from the salt so no more clumps!
4. Rust Free Tools- Moisture also causes metal to rust. If you put your tools in a container filled with uncooked rice after using them, it will help them to not rust.
5. Air Freshener- If a certain room smells like mildew, put 10 drops of essential oil and uncooked rice into a bowl and set it in the room. The rice quickly captures the moisture in the air and the essential oil leaves a refreshing scent!
6. Ripening Fruit- Uncooked rice traps ethylene gas and more gas means faster ripening of fruit. If you completely cover your fruit in uncooked rice for 24 hours, it will help with the fast ripening.
7. Shaping Pie Crust- Help pie crust keep its shape by placing a cheesecloth or parchment paper on the pie crust then put a generous amount of uncooked rice on top and bake.
8. Keep the Rice Water- Rice water is also a helpful household item so don’t throw it out! Clean glass, mirrors, and it makes a great natural starch while ironing clothes. It contains a lot of nutrients so it would also be great for watering house plants or your outside garden. Rice water only holds the nutrients for 24 hours though.
9. Natural Scrubber- Add ½ cup of rice, soap, and water in a container and mix all together. The rice grains will scrub away dirt and grime while the soap and water sanitize.
