You want to impress your guests this Thanksgiving, that is a given. Well let us help you dress up your dining room table with these dollar store décor ideas from HGTV.
Let’s start with the table setting. If you have a blanket scarf, you have a tablecloth. Why spend money on a new tablecloth when you can just use that scarf you have in your closet?
Instead of using your really nice plates, buy plastic gold ones and accent with some chalk paint. To up your guests experience, print out the dinner menu on vellum paper and set on the gold plate setting. Then put a glass plate from the dollar store over the menu. SO CUTE!
Forget about the paper napkins. Get some kitchen wash cloths and slide it into a DIY napkin ring!
To make the ring, just take a shower curtain ring and wrap strips of scrap fabric around it. Secure with hot glue. Then to dress it up, wrap some festive string and tie it in a bow.
To make seating easy, just use place cards. Make these place cards look festive and fun by buying mini gold picture frames from the dollar store. Flip the sample picture around and write the guests name. Then reframe it and put it where you would like that guest to sit. It adds a personal touch!
You have to have some pumpkin decorations for Thanksgiving! Get some mini pumpkins at the dollar store and paint a few of them with chalk paint then spread them across the table for some décor and pops of color!
To light up the table, it would be a good idea to have a couple candles on the table. If you get the candles with clear vases, you could add writing in a gold pen. In the picture below, they simply just added “Thankful” and it works wonderfully for the occasion. It makes it look a little fancier and festive.
I have no idea why people only set out 1 set of salt and pepper shakers…. BUT you should definitely set out multiple sets. If they don’t match your décor, just put a coat of gold paint on them. No more reaching over people to get the salt.
For the centerpiece of your table, put some large stems into a glass vase. Use pencils to trace a leaf-shaped cookie cutter on construction paper. Cut out the leaves and place around the table for people to write down what they are thankful for. Once they are done writing that down, have them use mini clothespins to pin the leaves on the stems. This makes a cute and personal centerpiece for your table. A perfect activity to end a perfect meal.
